ipkg + Provides

Hi,

is ipkg supposed to recognize that e.g. package foo
  Provides: bar
and then install foo when asked to
  ipkg install bar
?

I tried this with ipkg 0.99.148 and 0.99.151
and a new opie-reader-main package which is
supposed to replace the old opie-reader package
and thus contains
  Provides: opie-reader
but ipkg does not install it when called with
  ipkg install opie-reader

I checked that there is only one "Provides: opie-reader"
in /usr/lib/ipkg/lists/* and the package installs
fine via
  ipkg install opie-reader-main
