Nah, I got it wrong, I'm now building kernels from CVS and making the proper ipkg feed and doing it that way, although at the moment downgrading the kernel seems to involve a complete re-flash :p)
The -hh18b kernel does not seem to get mmc-insert events on hotplug, mmc-remove work fine. It has the SD changes in it so I suspect that has caused a small bugaboo.
I can't get cvs alsa to compile against the cvs kernel so I'm using the oss sound modules and they work fine on my 3870.
I had the same problem with -hh15 of the power button being non-functional, so I'm back to -hh13 until I can get the mmc sorted.
I wont have a lot of time to look at it now until I move countries in a month, but I'll keep poking at it when I get time.
