Revival of e800

Hello! Anybody there?

I've tried to revive my e800 (didn't touch it for about 2 years now). It's
highly time I definitely have a Linux on it.

So plugged it in the craddle and it started charging (battery was empty after
all that time), and it booted to WM2k3. I was expecting all the hassle of
re-configuring it, but WM2k3 is really *stupid*! When calibrating the screen,
it loops for ever! I can't go pass this calibration step!

So upgraded it to WM2k3-SE in a desperate attempt that such a bug was solved,
but apparently, MS guys thought it was a feature, because the calibration
screen keeps looping forever!

Pressure is OK because the cross moves as soon as I tap the screen, but WM2k3
must be thinking the coordinates are too far from the acceptable values and
refuses the calibration! Shit! And, yes: I tap at the center of the cross! :-)

So now I'm left with a brick that is absolutely useless! I can't even run
Linux on it, as the only loader I know of is to be run from WM2k3.

So here are my questions:

- Ian, are you still here?

- What is the exact status of the e800 port? That's not much an issue for
me if there is only drivers to debug.

- Is it possible to trick the factory bootloader to load an upgrade image?
Such an image would contain at least the kernel bynary.
And then trick the bootloader to load the linux kernel and run it instead
of a WM2k3 'kernel' (whatever that might look like) ?

- Is there a working (even partially) bootloader for the e800 (Ian has one for
the e740, but I couldn't find one for the e800 on his site)? I seem to recall
from the old days that you spoke of such a bootloader, but that it was not
really stable. At this point, my PDA *is* unusable, so flashing a custom BL
on it wouldn't hurt any more! I'm willing to take the risk! :-)

Regards, and thanks for your attention.
Yann E. MORIN.
