Dear handhelds.org,
I hope whoever reads this doesn't mind my asking here, but after many
hours of trying very hard I've been unable to save my iPaq, so maybe
someone here can give me some pointers. The situation is as follows: I
had familiar linux working fine for quite a while on my Pocket PC, but
since I wanted to go back to an original installation (very stupid in
hindsight) I reflashed successfully with parrot bootloader and
PPC2000. I then wanted to do the upgrade to 2002, but during the flash
the (windows) program failed. I was using the Compaq/MS way just like
I should (which is why I needed the original bootloader). Anyway, try
as I might, I couldn't carry on where I left off, so now I have parrot
and a corrupt ROM image.
I've tried many things: I've bought a CF jacket and tried r2c/c2r with
many different CF cards, but as I don't know how to format them (FAT?)
it consistently says "Please insert cf card" when I try one of the two
commands. I've also tried using a program called mtty11a.exe which is
a serial terminal with (apparently) support for ppfs, with which I've
tried to use the commands lr nk.nb0 and l nk.nb0 where nk.nb0 is the
image file for PPC2002. What else can I try? I'd be very happy to be
able to replace parrot with bootldr for Compaq as the latter is so
much better and supports so many more features (not a bricked PPC if
the ROM is corrupt, yay). Can I use parrot to replace bootldr? Can I
do anything else to try and get parrot to help me? When I do for
example "lr file" it waits a long while then says "Fail to synchronize
with the host(1)", also for the commands lcp etc.
Please help, I'd be very grateful if you can help me un-brick my PPC!
:) By the way, it's a H3630.
Kind regards,
Paul van der Walt
