Yes, a CF clone method would be more generally available...
I just freshly formatted FAT 16 on a 32Meg CF, and put my root image on it, then tried the
clonee steps (below), and it failed.
The directory looks empty as reported by 'vfat mount', so I did ls, and got the following.
boot> vfat ls
vfat_list_dir_entries: attr=00000000
skipping long entries
I got kernal panics when trying to boot after that. So I reloaded from the Microdrive with the same instructions with success. By the way, the length parameter on the 'program' command is still required.
You said FAT12 (ugh) , do you think that would do it instead of FAT16 ?

sleeve insert
pcmcia insert
vfat mount 0
vfat read 0xc2000000 snap76.jf2 #(my root image)
program root 0xc2000000 0x00fc0000 # length param required with bootldr 2.18.22
