Problems with boot loader 2.18.54

Hey Guys,
I've used familiar for quite a little while, but need to go back to PPC
2002 I loaded up Hyper terminal reset with joypad pressed and tried to
connect to the boot loader. Hyper Terminal will connect but I can't
type, and rarely get input from the terminal (i.e. boot messages). I
have turned off flow control in every place I can find (I'm running
win2k) and still can't seem to get to a terminal prompt.

I get the boot splash screen and it boots alright.

If someone could shed some light on this, I'd be grateful.
