Not quite a brick.

Hello brick people. I sent an email a few months ago (I think it was in
August) from my former email address at hrisedorph@qcnet.net concerning my
iPaq 3700-series that was "bricked." George France may remember me as
heather or rise1525-2 from IRC.

It was shutting off repeatedly, even after toggling the battery disconnect
switch. After coming back from leaving it alone for a few days, it was
working again. I re-flashed the OS, put the GPE bootstrap for pre0.6 on it
(I had the Opie of the same Familiar version before) and left it for awhile
because I was busy with other things. I told the people on IRC at the time
that it was just a stupid user error. I found out that the cord to charge
the iPaq had come loose. I was a bit unsettled, though, because completely
disconnecting it from the power cord didn't cause the iPaq to behave
normally.

I left the iPaq plugged in since that time up until this morning. It never
shut down. When I came back it was sitting happily in the GPE matchbox
window waiting for me. After putting Opie back on my system and unplugging
it, it started the unexpected shutdown problems back up again. Today at
work, I unplugged it to show it to a coworker and it turned off. I then
flipped the battery switch (without reconnecting it to the AC adaptor) and
it booted and let me show it off without any shut downs.

It doesn't seem like it is a problem of having both Opie and GPE on there,
but I suppose anything is possible. I think it's clear that there is
something wrong, probably with the battery. It is still usable, but very
unpredictable. I was wondering if I should send it in to you or someone
else? What is the address to send it in and get this checked out?

Thank you for offering this service. I look forward to enjoying my iPaq
where the only problems I come across are problems caused by being on the
blazing edge of technology. :)

Heather
