Bootldr failing to read correct CF Card geometry..

hi everyone..

been stuck with my CF Card trying to get bootldr boot off it.. to no
avail..
i thought i was doing something wrong.. and i went as far as flashing CE
on just to format the card there, bootldr still fails to read the card.

after enabling debugging and extra verbosity for ide control in
bootldr.. i noticed the following:..
bootldr is failing to read the correct drive geometry. and is reporting
number of heads to be 0 at all times:

  serial_number: S II 55022440932466
  firmware_revision: RRvS...0
  model_number: SSI FFashhS.110
  n_sectors_user_addressable=00000000
  bytes_per_sector=00000202
  major_version=00000000
  minor_version=00000000
  flags=0000848A
  bytes_per_track=00000000
  n_sectors_per_track=00000020
  n_cylinders=00000303
  n_heads=00000000
  cmdset[0]=00000000
  cmdset[1]=00000000
  cmdset[2]=00000000
  cmdset[3]=00000000
  cmdset[4]=00000000
  cmdset[5]=00000000
  ACTUAL bytes_per_sector=00000200

( btw.. the card i`m using in this case is a SimpleTech 128MB CF Card )

i tried with bootldr 2.18.01, 2.18.48, and 2.18.49 ( the last two were
verified to be working by flypiper, as he managed to boot off an 8MB
Card )

i have some reports from other users experiencing the same problem..
with cards from different vendors, but so far they`r mostly 128MB CF
Cards only.

can anyone verify whats going on ?

is it the card size thats causing this problem?
or the card itself?

( i`d blame it on bootldr both ways, as the cards work perfectly
otherwise )

.. just thought i'd share this as well:

        boot> ide ptable
          start_cylinder=00000000
          start_head=00000000
          start_sector=00000000
          sector_count=00000001
        ide read: status reg=00000058
        ide read: error reg=00000000
        ptable signature=0000AAAA
        did not find dos partition table signature

( the card is formatted in CE, and surely has a valid DOS
Partition/Partition table )

comments/corrections/feedback/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Regards,
