cannot find download_kernel

I need to xmodem download a new kernel in the bootloader
as the original one is corrupt the bootloader FAQ

It says under bootloader params

download_kernel
If set to a nonzero value, then the boot command will boot a kernel
it downloads into DRAM via XMODEM or YMODEM rather than
booting the kernel in flash.

I cant find this variable show params does not show it .
 i an running 2.18.48
starting this with & without the action button

was this removed from a earlier version ??
