I thought it was a fluke the first time, but having had it
happen twice, I'm pretty sure that something is wrong..
I've been successful in getting bootldr (2.18.45) installed on my
iPAQ 3835, and have successfully booted both Linux (from Flash and
from VFAT [128MB card]) and WinCE (from Flash)...
At the moment, I've re-installed WinCE, and have seen the following:
1) Diddle around in bootldr through serial console, knowing
that this will require a re-install of WinCE applications
and data. No problem.
2) Boot into WinCE, move the appointment from 9:30 to 11:00 and
restore files and data from a backup made previously on CF.
3) Jab the iPAQ with the stylus as instructed by the restore
application.
4) Set the system clock to the correct time/date.
5) Run an application and set the iPAQ down, allowing it
to sleep.
5) Attempting to power back up with the power button fails,
and jabbing the iPaq with the stylus ends up at a "fresh"
WinCE install, all DRAM having been lost (goto step 2).
If you do a "manual" powerdown before step 5, you don't lose your
DRAM the next time the system sleeps on its own.
I don't know how to tell at this point what is causing the failure, nor
was I able to reproduce the problem just now, as I typed this... *SIGH*
