I just thought I'd point out that bootloaders which require compilation
with Microsoft tools could have a problem in the future. Microsoft
might change the license on the tools to forbid use with open source
software.

Microsoft has put restrictions on one software development tool (the
Mobile Internet Toolkit) which forbids its use with open source
software. Even editing source with an open editor might not be allowed.
