Doing a little bit of digging here.

Got a GPE based x50v image similar to JeDi's, which has root password
set and updated modules to match JeDi's kernel.

I will put it up for download later if anyone is interested.

My digging started when I tried to manually start GDM from the command
line, I got this output:
Unable to open /dev/touchscreen/0

So I went and searched the config that the kernel is built with and
found this:
 CONFIG_INPUT_TOUCHSCREEN is not set

JeDi, could you enable this and rebuild your kernel? I want to see
if /dev/touchscreen appears.

Also, the compactflash relies on the pxa2xx_core module, but no matter
how I insert and remove modules or cards, I get no success with it.

Also, is anyone else getting similar panics with their axim x50v? :
