For those of you that want to learn more about the kernel and driver
development read:

Just starting out? Install a base distro and read:
book-Running Linux (Oreilly)

For those more experienced read:
pdf online - The Linux Kernel Module Programming Guide (Peter Jay Salzman)
-create a hello world proc module here .. good read

book - Building embedded linux systems (Oreilly)
book - Embedded Linux Hardware softwaare interfacing (Craig Hollabaugh)
book - Linux Device Drivers (Oreilly) (3rd edition [2.6 kernel info] )
book - Linux Kernel Development (2nd ed) (Robert Love)

I recommend getting a gumstix or something like that to play with and get
used to developing modules, compiling and manipulating the kernel source.
I've got a few of them and they're lots of fun to work with. They are based
on the PXA255 clocked at 400Mhz or 200Mhz. They aren't as powerful as the
270 but they are a great learning tool. Playing with something that is
supported (and affordable) for a couple of months first is key to learning
and wrapping your head around how to set up a good dev sys. For instance
like using nfs mounts to run software compiled for your target or how to
build a base root filesystem.

Anyhow... back to work here

Regards...

Mark
