Re: Basic questions (UNCLASSIFIED)

IMHO, a product such as some of those from Motorola [1] (formerly
Symbol... which is formally Telxon) might be more optimized for data
entry. They are made just for the purpose you're looking for (I
believe their primary target is retail at-the-shelf data entry). I
believe these devices also come with APIs and development toolkits to
help create programs to meet your needs.

IMHO, the Axim is more-or-less designed to be a PIM-device. It
probably isn't as rugged as it should be for continual data entry.
Especially if it's to be used in-the-field.

However, if you have a spare Axim to experiment with (or want to use
it as a proof-of-concept before purchasing the Motorola terminals),
there are development tools to creating applications on the Pocket PC.
As a matter of fact, I think Visual Studio 7+ have PocketPC
development capabilities built right in for making a Windows' system.
If your unit (for some reason) doesn't have VS7, you should be able to
acquire a license and software easily from DARPA or whatever.

The above assumes you're using Windows Mobile on your PocketPC. If
you're using Linux (which this group is dedicated to), it _should_ be
fairly easy to develop a program like you desire.

In summary, data entry like what you want (from a PocketPC to a
computer over Wireless Ethernet) may be best accomplished from a
device like the Motorola/Symbol Mobile Computers [1], as they are
designed just for that purpose.

Hope this helps!
