I can confirm that on the x51v, it doesn't overwrite the ROM or require a
hard reset. But you should still make a backup in case it messes something
else up, just in case.
There's probably not much point trying it now though, unless you are going
to manually compile a build. The latest pre-built package I know of doesn't
have touchscreen support, so you can only use the command line through a USB
connection.
