I'm still planning on trying to get linux my X30. Unfortunately, I got
sidetracked with school lately.

I'm basically trying to pick up where the x30 page on handhelds.org left
off. The hardware page is especially helpful.
See: http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/AximX30Hardware

My plan is to set up a development environment with an arm cross compiler
and possibly QEMU. This could take some time to get something that works
correctly. I think there are some prebuilt cross compiling toolchains on the
handhelds.org page.

Next, I want to get a newer kernel then the one on the handhelds.org axim
x30 page. That one boots, but I think the usbnet driver is broken on the x30
side since it won't connect to my desktop in Linux, but connects fine with
WinCE. I think a newer kernel should fix the broken usbnet.
Some good info on this is:

http://www.handhelds.org/handhelds-faq/handhelds-faq.html

I'm using HaRET on WinCE to boot into linux. I'll probably not mess around
with bootloaders yet, since HaRET is useful for things like probing GPIOs
and such, which helped me map out the keys. I'm using the version of HaRET
compiled for the ipaq hx4700, since it seems to be most compatible with the
hardware in the x30 (same processor). I guess it's a good idea to read the
hx4700 handhelds.org page and the x50 page since they have similar hardware.
Also reading the mailing lists should be useful as well.

My background is in EE/CompE, so I'm pretty familiar with the hardware/low
level side of things. I know some C/C++, but it's great to get additional
experience in that area. We can work both sides and hopefully meet in the
middle. Do you have any kernel programming experience?

I didn't write this... :-)
