Hi all,
I don't know if there is still any activity on this list. It seems like the
last (real, not spam) messages are from August. ;)
Well, I recently dusted off my x30 and thought it would be good to try
putting linux on there. I ran across the handhelds.org page and wiki. Thanks
to all the info there about using HaRET, I was able to map out the GPIOs for
the x30 keys. The info is appended to the bottom of this post.
I was also able to boot to linux. However, my desktop couldn't see the x30
when it was running linux. I am starting to suspect that this is due to a
broken usbnet (there were a few posts from several years ago on the mailing
list archives about that) in the version of the kernel I'm running. It's the
version available from the handhelds.org x30 wiki -- many thanks to those
who created it! :)
After browsing the handhelds.org page, my goal is to get Familiar running on
my x30 with Opie (and GPE as well, but I'm interested in the Qtopia aspects
of Opie for now). I'm not so concerned about permanently installing linux to
the flash yet since I'm able to boot through HaRET. I'd like to be able to
set up a development environment. It also seems like the x50 project has
some useful information, but that seems somewhat stalled as well.
I guess that's enough about my goals. I'd really like to help out with the
project. To that end, I have several questions:
1. Is the usbnet driver broken in the latest available version of the kernel
for the x30?
2. Is anyone still updating the wiki? Can I add to it?
3. What is the best way to set up a development environment? I'm looking for
a cross-compiling tool chain for ARM.
4. What is the best kernel to start from? Are there sources available for
the last kernel posted on the wiki?
5. How can I get involved with development?
It's getting late. I may be fairly busy with school during the next two
weeks or so, but I subscribed to the mailing list if anyone is interested.
Thanks, and best regards,
Logan
