My 2 cents on the letter (mostly minor grammarical fixes and clarification;
it is an excellent letter overall, I believe, but just a bit unclear.
(Changes are in brackets.)):

Dear Dell,

[I am representing a growing community of Dell Axim X30 users who would love
to use the open-source operating system Linux on the device. The current
project webpage can be found at
http://www.handhelds.org/projects/aximx30.html.] As a buyer of a Dell Axim
X30 at the cost of [$]500 at the time, I would like to have access to all
hardware specification[s] inside the Axim. This [project] would allow a
greater market for Dell[;] all the development would be done by us [and we
simply] need some specific technical information so that we could join the
two together (Linux + Axim X30). The most critical and important info for us
is how the flash memory works so that we could rewrite it and bring Linux
kernel on boot.

[Of course,] we will not call you if we smoke our gadget ;)

Let us work together so that way you will be able to access a larger
community. We would be happy to share with you all the technical information
on the Dell in GPL format so that it might be used to really provide a free
alternative to you.
