[asus-port] PDA's IP address

Finally for today, my request for help.

usbnet seems to be up both on the PDA and on my Linux desktop where
the cradle is plugged in. I don't have a prompt on the PDA, so I guess
telnet or ssh to the PDA from the desktop is next, but I don't know
the IP under which the PDA silently waits.

Broadcast ping to the network assigned to the interface fails for me
as an operation that is not permitted. I think that problem is
independent of getting Linux to run on the PDA, so I would like to
circumvent it by trying only the IP assumed by the PDA.

Am I way off the mark? Where can I find the IP I assume I need?
