Here, Jamey is beginning on brain surgery. Before starting make sure you remove the stylus, as various parts interlock with it.! We don't recommend you take your unit apart,, particularly outside of a properly grounded lab environment.

Jamey starts the
                                                surgery

First the screws come off, then one gently prys the side open a bit.

Jamey starts gently prying the
                                                              back off

Gently prying the case open on its side...

Continuing the prying further
                                                             down the
                case

And again further up the side. Various pieces interlock, so this isn't as easy as Jamey makes it look.

Back popped off

Having freed the back, you have to look out for the interior cables.

Almost done.

Almost done...

Front lifted off the back.

Front lifted away from the back.

iPAQ on the Bench

Ahh... Open flat on the bench.

Im JG's hand

Running X, xterm, scribble, xeyes, etc. I modified some X resources to make xterm's scrollbar usable. Twm has also seen some tuning of its configuration file.

iPAQ with xcalc

xcalc is usable unchanged from the original.

iPAQ with TWM menus.

Twm menus: I should use a bit bigger font.

iPAQ with xterm and
                                                    scribble.

Using scribble, 'ls' in xterm. We understand how to enable scribble to scribble in any keyboard input window, via the mechanism Bob Scheifler used in "Hands off X!"

X Logo.

The logo for good measure. There is a bit of moire' patterns in the above pixtures: the digital camera pixels were beating against the pxiels on the iPAQ's screen.
